New dinner service!!!!!!

Picture of the new dinner service

Today our new dinner service arrived. This is going to be for everyday use (a bit over the top I agree, but life is too short to eat from a cheap service if it can be avoided), and so I’ve disposed of my 10 year old service (a cheapo one, half of the plates had broken anyway) and I’ve welcomed home the new one. A lot of washing up to do and arranging in the cupboard but it was well worth it.

Serving bowlI’ve wanted a new service for ages but it was impossible to find one on which Peter and I would agree. Although it’s true that this one (Wedgwood Nature) has been around for ages (actually since 2000), it was during our visit to London’s Wedgwood store that it caught Peter’s eye (it had caught mine a long time ago).

Funny enough Peter remarked that the serving bowl actually looks like a hat upside down, and it does! We all think in “hat” terms these days!

The beautiful placemat is from Le Jacquard Français. I bought it at the factory store in the french town of Gérardmer (in the Vosges region) where we spent a few days of holiday last year.

  1. I like your new china, but oh come on…make a hat using that bowl! A nice straw body, some cling wrap, a few clothes pin, and it will block a great little summer hat!
The self stick tape I mentioned on my blog is available from
    http://www.amazingtape.com/
I “tacked” the veil with a simple stitch, a tack is just an short up and down stitch to hold something in place, not a product.
Isn’t it fun, this millinery ring that is forming?
We WILL take over the world, one hat at a time.

  3. Aaah my flatware! Hehe, I was going to write about it and then I thought, nobody will care! Well… there you have it, Jill cares!
My mother has given it to me (she had not used it in years), and it’s a Rosenthal flatware from the early seventies. Rosenthal is a German brand better known for its dinner services and porcelain, but they also make flatware. I tried to look other examples of the same flatware on the internet but I have found nothing! But it’s really gorgeous and the knives although they have a funny shape they are very ergonomical and easy to hold and use. I also have the Rosenthal dinner service, that I will keep for special occasions, it’s white with a brown modern flower border, very sixties/seventies.

  4. Me encanta! Sorry, I love it!. Love, love the scrolling pattern in the dinnerware. And you’re right life’s too short…

  5. It’s so beautiful! Good things are meant to be used and enjoyed, I believe. My husband also sees hats in upside down bowls. I’ve made them and loved them too…even taught a class on one which Jill took. Enjoy!
