Jaw dropping pictures from South Africa and Merry Xmas

Filed under: daily life — Cristina de Prada @ 9:53 pm

It’s been a while since I last posted.
Please accept my apologies for that and also my best wishes for this Christmas.
The truth is I have not been feeling that well, but gradually I’m getting back on my feet, and soon I will be my old millinery self, or so I hope.
As you may know from my previous posts (and the low quality of my pictures), I was camera-less. I had lent my camera to my brother Jose Manuel. He recently came back from a 2 month trip to Cape Town (and surroundings), and what can I say, it was well worth it.

The pictures he took in the Kalahari desert (and I’ve only seen a handful) are awsome.
I’m sure you’ll agree… (click on the pictures to enlarge them).

  1. Just a note from the photographer. The photos are not from the Kalahari, but from an area a few hundred kilometers south from there (although still about 800 km from Cape Town). It is known as the Upper Karoo. The /Xam Bushmen, who lived there for thousands of years, until they were exterminated by the European, Xhosa and Baster colonists, called “/Xam-ka !au”, “the dust (or ground) of the /Xam”. It is within what is now the Northern Cape Province. And I must make a little confession: the first photo, while taken in that same area, was taken in May 2005, during my first trip there. That kind of image can only be obtained when it has rained. When I went this year it was in the dry season.
