A little millinery gift for myself – old headsize measuring tool

Hat headsize measuring tool

I bought myself this little tool on ebay, isn’t it great? You can insert it in a hat and that way you can measure the headsize. I guess it was used by milliners or sales attendants to find out the headsize of the customer that wanted to buy a new hat (and came with one on their heads). I’ve had to pay 52 euros for it, but I think it was well worth it!

Here is a detail picture:

  1. I am blown away that you even spotted this thing on ebay. I wouldn’t have even known such a thing existed. It is a beauty. Lucky you.

  3. Jill, I did an ebay search for the words chapeau, chapeaux and modiste… after browsing through lots of things (mostly vintage and new hats) this popped up. It had the following title “Mesureur pour chapeau. Ancien .Impeccable” Which literaly means “measurer for hats. old. Impeccable”. I’m soooo happy with it, it’s the coolest thing!

  4. Happy new year! I would love one of those, it is very hard to measure hat size I find! I am currently watching some old hat stretchers on ebay, it it the place to find the most wonderful bits and pieces!
