Expert Geoffrey Munn pointing at one of the brooches

Before I forget. If you are curious about my costume jewelry brooch collection you can get a glimpse at it next Sunday 21 October on BBC1. And shame on me… I’m not wearing a hat!

  1. If we can’t get BBC1, could you let us know what the collection appraised at next Monday? (So as not to kill the surprise for those who can watch?)

Yes, shame on you for not wearing a hat. Bad Milliner. Bad. And on TV yet. Tsk.

  2. Hi there, I’ve just discovered your blog and I’m so excited. I read it from start to finish, or should I say, from start to present. Luckily my son and nephew (2 and 7 months) slept for a good hour or so this morning which gave me the time. Of course I should have been doing paperwork, making hats etc etc. Reading this was so much more fun!

I have a hat hire business in Wales. About 6 months ago a lady came to see me and I couldn’t find the right hat for her. My business is fairly new and I never like a customer to leave without a hat so I made one for her and I haven’t looked back since! I am teaching myself the wonderful art of millinery through the internet and books, some of which you have reviewed and I have a lot to learn! So your blog is invaluable for picking up little tips and just so enjoyable.

I don’t know any milliners and working alone from home can be lonely. I do enjoy my own company but I also enjoy meeting the ladies who come in for hats, I have met some great people. But it is so nice to be able to get a peek into the world of someone who is doing the same as me.

And your hats are beautiful. I can’t wait to see how the latest one came out. To date I have been making small cocktail hats and fascinators as well as some wilder freestyle affairs. I have just bought my first block from ebay and ordered some felt and I am very excited. I will be going back over your blog on a regular basis and I’ll be using my microwave!

Sorry about going on, this is supposed to be a comment and I am supposed to be making tea but my nephew is sleeping again after a long walk and my two boys are watching a dvd so I can get away with it for ten minutes.

Thanks again for your wonderful blog. I’m glad you didn’t give up. And I will be watching the Antiques Roadshow on Sunday. I’m afraid its one of my favourite programmes!

    Best wishes, Cath

  3. Isn’t it great making new friends thanks to the Internet? I started the blog because I felt alone and thought it would encourage me to make more hats. I’ve had my ups and downs, but I’m really happy I started because I’ve met some wonderful people, so thank you very much Cath for your kind comments!

There was also a new comment (new friend) on this post: http://kuki.deprada.net/?p=49
It’s Vanessa who lives in Milan!

Jill, yes you’re right, shame on me for not wearing a hat… bad, bad, bad girl. Concerning valuations, Mr. Munn (the jewelry specialist) who is an expert on fine jewelry, was not particularly interested on my junk brooches, but on something else I had (which does get valued)… I will not reveal any more right now…

  4. Having seen AR, I think you and the piece looked great, I really liked how it first showcases your custom jewlery and then turns to the brooch. Good work Kuk!

  6. OK…give. What was appraised and for how much?
    I couldn’t get the show!

  7. Jill… I could tell you… but then I would have to kill you! 😉

They didn’t appraise the costume jewelry (I just said how much I had spent on it),
but turns out that my mom’s pendant is more expensive than the whole costume jewelry
    collection. Yikes!
